In the semifinals of the Serbian Cup, tomorrow Vojvodina will face Čukarički in Belgrade. It will be one of at least three remaining matches for the red and whites until the end of the season, although everyone in the squad of the Old Lady hopes that, by the end of the season, they will still play four more games, ie they will be participants in the Serbian Cup final, scheduled for June 24.
In case of winning all the remaining matches until the end, Voša will not only secure a place in Europe and win a trophy, but will also acquire the title of runner-up and enable itself to start in the qualifications for the Europa League next season from the second round. Therefore, it would be the most successful season for the club since 1989, when Voša won its last league title.
However, on the other hand, the red and whites theoretically have not yet secured a place in Europe, considering that if Čukarički wins the Cup and TSC overtakes the Old Lady in third place in the table, these two teams will, along with Red Star and Partizan, play on the European scene next season. Therefore, it is clear that the red and whites must go step by step, and the first, extremely important, awaits them tomorrow in Belgrade.
According to the words of the red-and-white central back Đorđe Đurić, it will be an extremely difficult and uncertain match.
– The match that awaits us tomorrow will certainly be the most difficult, but also the most important for us so far this season. We have a huge desire to win a place in the finals of the Serbian Cup, in which Vojvodina has not participated since 2014, and I think that it would be a great success for this generation. Of course, we still have ambitions in the league, where we will try to win second place, and certainly our primary goal is to secure a place in Europe through any competition. If we eliminate Čukarički from the Cup tomorrow, we will definitely secure a performance on the European scene, and I believe that we will succeed in that and show that Vojvodina is a club of great reputation and tradition – says Đurić.
He arrived to Vojvodina last summer, from Čukarički.
– It is a very organized club, led by president Dragan Obradović. They constantly have a good team, which includes several experienced players, such as Puškarić, Docić, Kajević… In the current team of Vojvodina, Čukarički’s jersey was previously worn by Nikola Drinčić, Petar Bojić and me, and there was also boss Lalatović and his assistants Dragan Šarac and Vidak Bratić. It is certain that we will all have a special motive for tomorrow’s game – Đurić points out.
In Belgrade, Vojvodina will have great support from the fans, for whom free transportation and tickets for this match have been provided.
– Our fans really support us in every game and are always with us, wherever we play. They were with us in Ivanjica and their support is really fantastic. At this moment, perhaps the most important thing for us is that the song of the fans gives us extra strength on the pitch, so that we can all rejoice in great success together. Because of the fans, as well as because of the whole club, all of us players really want to reach the finals and get into the fight for the trophy – said Đurić.
Registrations for going to tomorrow’s match are possible today at the Vojvodina fan shop at the west stand of Karađorđe (next to gate entrance number 2) from 10 am to 6 pm, and the gathering before departure is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 pm at the south stand of Karađorđe stadium.
