After Vladimir Kovačević, another former player of Vojvodina returned to the squad of the Old Lady this summer. By signing a two-year contract, the new-old member of the red and whites became 32-year-old Novica Maksimović, an experienced defensive midfielder, who already wore Voša’s jersey in the period from June 2015 to January 2017.

Novica Maksimović was born on April 4, 1988 in Sombor, and he started his senior career in Crvena stijena from Montenegro. He then played for Hajduk (Kula), Novi Sad, Lombard Pápa (Hungary), Sloboda (Užice), Spartak and Vojvodina, where the fans chose him as the best player of the red and whites in the 2015/16 season. After leaving Vojvodina, he played for Atyrau (Kazakhstan) and Panionios (Greece), in which he played 15 games last season, scored two goals and had one assist.

– I am very happy to be back at FK Vojvodina. I don’t need to talk much about the greatness of the club, because it is known that it is one of the biggest in Serbia. I spent the most beautiful part of my career here, during which we had top results. We reached the Europa League playoffs twice in a row, and I hope that this time we will have a little more luck, especially when it comes to the draw, so we can try to enter the group stage. I worked with Lalatović last time as well, so I won’t need much time to adjust. I know a lot of players, as well as members of the coaching staff, so I can’t wait to run on the pitch and give my maximum – said Maksimović.

He played a game for his previous club Panionios in the Greek league last weekend, and he trained on his own for the previous few days. As he himself points out, he is already completely ready to compete for a place in the team, and whether that will happen for the game against TSC on Friday, depends on whether the necessary papers from Greece will arrive on time.
