The fans of Vojvodina grabbed their heads, while the supporters of Čukarički caught their breath in the 72nd minute of the match of the 12th round of the Super League of Serbia between these two teams, when the young 18-year-old Serbian U-19 national team player Mirko Topić took a shot from more than 20 meters, and the ball, instead of the net, hit a post of the opponent’s goal.

However, that shot, as well as the overall impression that he made over 90 minutes at Banovo Brdo, is an indication that Topić has undeniable football talent and that, if he continues to develop properly, he can grow into a player worthy of some of the strongest leagues in Europe.

After the impressions from the match have settled down, he points out that he is not dissatisfied with the score, as well as with the performance presented by the red and whites.

– I think that the real derby of this round was seen and that, despite the lack of goals, the match justified the expectations of the spectators. We did entered the match cautiously and a little more defensively, because it was more important for us not to conced a goal. However, we had our chances and it is a shame that we did not use them, especially my shot twenty minutes before the end of the match. However, I think that we still fulfilled all what the boss wanted from us and that is why we cannot be dissatisfied – Topić says.

For him, this was the first time this season that he played all 90 minutes in one match, although he was included in the starting lineup after because 22-year-old Marko Đurišić fell ill, literally a few hours before the kick-off.

– Yes, I suddenly found myself in the starting lineup for the first time this season. I had a small tremor, but a positive one, and now when I look over, I think I can be satisfied with my performance. However, this is already behind us and that is why I turn to what is ahead – Topić notes.

What comes next is the match of the Round of 16 of the Serbian Cup against Sinđelić, on Wednesday at 6 pm at Karađorđe.

– There is no need to emphasize that in this match we will go on for the win and that going further is our only goal and obligation. Even before the start of the season, I said that I would like us to reach the placement in Europe and win the Cup, and for now we are going very well towards achieving those goals. Of course, in order to succeed in this, we will have to play at least on the same level as we did so far, and personally I do not doubt that it will be the case – Topić said.
