Standard won at home with the result 2-0 (2-0) and goals by Felipe Avenatti in the 19th minute from the penalty spot and Selim Amallah in the 34th minute.

The match between Standard and Vojvodina in Liege will be played in exactly one week, ie on Thursday, September 24. Meanwhile, on the draw that will be held tomorrow at 2 pm in Nyon, both rivals will find out the name of their potential opponent in the playoffs for the Europa League.

In its history, Vojvodina has never played against Standard, but it is connected with this club since its jersey, just like the Old Lady’s jersey, was worn by three football players who were among the leading players in the team in both clubs.

From 1969 to 1974, a member of the first title-winning generation of Vojvodina, Silvester Takač, played for Standard, and in that period he played 111 games and scored 44 goals. With Standard, he was twice the champion of Belgium (1970, 1971) and twice the finalist of the Cup, and also with five goals scored in the European Champions Cup in the 1971/72 season he shared the best scorer award with two other players.

Before that, Takač played for Vojvodina from 1958 to 1967, and had 182 appearances in the Yugoslav league, thus scored 62 goals. He was one of the most deserving for winning the title, because he played all 30 games that season and scored 13 goals, making him the most efficient player in the team. The following season, he became even more famous for his excellent performances in the European Champions Cup, when he reached the quarterfinals with Vojvodina, and he was the team’s top scorer with four goals. Then he drew the attention of foreign managers to himself, and after a dramatic third leg against Atlético Madrid in the Round of 16, when Vojvodina went further with Takač’s goal in overtime, he continued his career abroad.

Besides him, the best player of Standard Liège at the time was the later football player of Vojvodina, Almami Moreira, who from 2001 to 2004 and then from 2005 to 2006 played a total of 114 games for the Belgian club and scored 18 goals. Already in the first year, with his good performances, he won the sympathy of Standard fans, who declared him the best player of that club in the 2001/02 season. Moreira continued to provide good games for the next two years.

After that, Moreira was a member of Vojvodina from January 2012 to January 2013, during which he played 31 games and scored two goals.

Of course, the Serbian player who Serbian sports public most attaches to Standard is Milan Jovanović, former member of the Serbian national team, former first team player of Vojvodina and a true legend of the club from Liège, for which he played 116 games and scored 52 goals from 2006 to 2010. In the 2006/07 season, he scored 24 goals in 39 official matches. In the 2007/08 season, he was chosen as the best player in the Belgian league. In the same year, he won the title with Standard. It was the first title for Standard since 1982. The following year, he won the Super Cup and the second consecutive title with Standard.

Before that, Milan Jovanović started his senior career in Vojvodina, for which he played 43 games and scored 10 goals from 1999 to 2003.

Standard is one of the most successful clubs in Belgium. It has 10 titles, eight Cups and four Super Cups of Belgium, and in the 1981/82 season it reached the Cup Winners’ Cup final. It is currently in the third place of the Belgian Jupiler League, and the coach of the team is the Frenchman Philippe Montanier. He at his disposal has a team composed of 16 domestic and as many as 14 foreign players, which does not include the young Serbian player, 19-year-old Damjan Pavlović, who also has Belgian citizenship and has passed through the younger categories of this club.

At home, Standard plays at the Maurice Dufrasne stadium, with a capacity of 27.670 seats, but due to the epidemiological situation, the match against Vojvodina will be played without the presence of spectators.
