The state of emergency in Serbia caused by the corona virus pandemic has suspended all sports competitions in the country, including the football Super League, but Vojvodina players, as much as they can in these circumstances, are preparing as if the season will continue tomorrow.

According to the red and whites’ defender Nikola Andrić, he and his teammates follow the instructions they received and obey all precautions.

– With our fitness coach Saša Semeredi, we have joint online training sessions three to four times a week, which is good because of the atmosphere within the team, since training alone can be boring. In addition, I take the opportunity of staying at my parents in the village of Rabrovac to go for a run three to four times a week at the local football pitch, and I believe that we will soon have a home bike as well, so that we will be able to maintain fitness in that way also – Andrić says.

He and his family strictly follow the protection measures prescribed by the government.

– My brother recently returned home from Dubai, so now we are all here except for my wife, who is in Slovakia and is going to give birth in April. I don’t think any of us expected something like this to happen, because at first everyone thought it was a small, harmless virus, but it turned out to be much more serious – Andrić points out.

It is currently uncertain whether the season in Serbia will continue and when.

– I think that the final decision should be made by the experts from the Football Association. I see that in England and Germany the leagues will resume in May and will be played in front of the empty stands until the end of June. I do not know if it will be the same with us, but in any case, we must be ready for any decision of the Association. That’s why we have to use this time as much as we can to keep up our fitness – notes Andrić.

He joined the team of Vojvodina from Mladost this winter and managed to fit in a new environment.

– Until the pandemic of the virus, everything was really cool. It was a little difficult for me at first, because I was alone, but I have some friends here that I know from before, and with the new teammates, I quickly became closer and closer. The atmosphere between us is really great and with that I think not only of us players, but also the coach, the fitness coach, the physical therapists, the maids and literally all the other people in the club – Andrić said.
