In the ceremonial hall of FC Vujadin Boškov in Veternik, the football club Vojvodina today promoted its official calendars for 2021. Next year, FK Vojvodina will mark a great and valuable jubilee. That is the 55th anniversary of winning the first championship title and breaking the myth of the “big four” of Yugoslav football.

According to the words of the PR manager of FK Vojvodina, Miloš Subotin, the calendar was designed in such a way as to pay tribute to the 1966 generation.

– In the 1965/66 season, Vojvodina became the first team in the former Yugoslavia that managed to break the myth of the so-called “big four” and won the title in front of Red Star, Partizan, Dinamo, and Hajduk, with an eight-point advantage over second-placed Dinamo, at a time when only two points were gained per win. The calendar for 2021 is thematically processed to pay tribute to the generation that made that great success, and which, in the following season, but the same calendar year 1966, it managed to place in the quarterfinals of the European Champions Cup and thus officially qualify among the eight best teams in Europe at the time. For that reason, there is no doubt that 1966 is the most successful year in the long history of the club – said Subotin and added that the celebration of the 55th anniversary of winning the first title will last throughout the next year in different ways and that the central event and ceremony is planned for June 2021.

A member of the generation that won the first title in 1966 and the current president of the FK Vojvodina Veterans Section, Vasa Pušibrk, pointed out that 55 years ago, he had the privilege of being part of an extraordinary team.

– At the beginning of that season, I did not believe that we could fight for the championship title. Our goal was fifth place, especially after the defeat in Skopje. However, after that, we achieved seven wins and two draws in a row, and we saw that we could become champions. If there was any secret of success, it was certainly in the club’s good organization, impeccable physical fitness of all players, friendship, and desire to win. The most difficult match for us was against Red Star in Belgrade when we were leading 0-3 at half time, but in the end, we barely won 2: 3. The following season, we knocked out Atletico in the Round of 16 of the Champions Cup. In the quarterfinals, we were unhappily eliminated by Celtic, receiving a goal in Glasgow in front of 80,000 spectators in overtime. Celtic then became the first British team to win the title of European champion, and the only defeat of that season they suffered by us in Novi Sad, so only later did we become aware of what chance we missed – said Pušibrk.

Starting from today, the calendars of FK Vojvodina for 2021 are on sale in the Vojvodina fan shop on the west stand of the Karađorđe stadium (working hours from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm). They can also be ordered via the Instagram page @sopnavijacavojvodine.

The price of one calendar is a symbolic 550 dinars. All the sale income will be paid for the treatment of one-year-old Oliver Pal Gajodi, who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy and needs expensive treatment abroad.
