Former Vojvodina footballer and current Serbian national team player Dusan Tadic won the February award of the City of Novi Sad for 2018, as it is decided at today’s ceremonial session of the Assembly of the City of Novi Sad.

The most prestigious city’s award was given to Dusan Tadic for the achievement of top-class sports results, which capture the glory of the youth school of the football club Vojvodina and affirm the reputation of the City of Novi Sad in the world.

The initiative for the awarding of the high rank by the former “old lady” player, and the current member of Ajax from Amsterdam, was filed by the football club Vojvodina.

Dusan Tadic was born on November 20, 1988 in Bačka Topola. He made the first football moves in his native place in the AIK, and since 2002 he was a member of Vojvodina and as a talented football player he successfully passed through the youth school “Ilija Pantelić”. For the senior team of Vojvodina, he has performed since the 2006/07 season and in the next four years he played a total of 107 games in the red-and-white jersey and scored 29 goals. He went to the Dutch club Groningen in 2010, where he continues his successful football career, so in the 2010/11 season with 22 assists was one of the best assistants in Europe. His career records a further rise by signing a three-year contract with FC Twente in 2012, when he is named the best player of Eredivisie. He continued his football career in English Premier League team Southampton in 2014, where he had great results, and since 2018, Dusan Tadic successfully plays for the famous Ajax from Amsterdam.

He has been playing for Serbia’s national team since 2008 and so far he has reached 61 caps and scored 20 goals. Especially should me mentioned his outstanding contribution to the Serbian national team’s qualify to the World Cup in Russia last year.

The February award is given as a social recognition for the most important works and achievements of the citizens of Novi Sad, who are in the spirit of cultivating the city’s freedom tradition and the unity of all its citizens. This award is granted by the Assembly of the City to a citizen for united efforts that are in the spirit of the city’s freedom traditions, fostering interpersonal tolerance and the unity of all its citizens for activities and works that affirm the name and tradition, fame and reputation of the City of Novi Sad, contribution to culture, art, literary works , the study of historical material and scientific research activities as a whole, as well as prominent engagement in humanitarian, social and health fields, on the occasion of the Day of the City – on February 1, the day when in 1748 Novi Sad was proclaimed to be a free royal city.
