As of today, Ulica No. 3 in Veternik will be called Ulica prote Georgija Živanova, it was decided at today’s session of the Assembly of the City of Novi Sad.

Georgije Živanov was born on January 23, 1897 in Mošorin and was one of the students of the Great Serbian Orthodox Gymnasium (today’s Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Gymnasium) who founded FK Vojvodina in 1914. Also, in addition to being one of the founders, he also served as the club’s secretary.

After graduating from high school in 1917, Georgije Živanov enrolled in the seminary, which he finished in 1921, and before he became a priest, he was a religious teacher in Novi Sad. He was ordained a deacon and a priest in 1925 and appointed archpriest in Žabalj, where he remained until 1936, when he was transferred to the parish of Vrbas. At his request, in 1938 he was appointed pastor of the third parish in Žabalj, where he welcomed the occupation.

He was killed on January 5, 1942 in the so-called “Christmas raid” in the municipal basement and he joined the ranks of priest-martyrs.
